Grille neck and face size calculator
From a face size back to the neck
Neck size and face size
The neck is the size of the duct opening the grille fits, and it is how schedules and price books list grilles: 12 × 6, 24 × 24. The face adds the border, so a 14 × 8 neck with a 1 1/4" border has a 16 1/2 × 10 1/2 face.
Borders vary by model
Surface-mount borders, lay-in panels for T-bar ceilings and narrow borders for drywall all change the face. Use the border width published for the model you quote.
Pricing by neck size
Price books usually price grilles in neck-size brackets, rounding up to the next published size. In ReadyVariant a grille catalog does the same and prints both the neck and the face on the quote; the grille demo prices one live.
Common questions
Is a grille’s size the neck or the face?
Schedules and price books normally give the neck size, the duct connection. The face is larger by the border on each side.
