What is a united inch?
The width plus the height of a window or glass unit, in inches. A 3'-0" × 5'-0" window is 36 + 60 = 96 united inches. Price books use them in brackets (up to 60 UI, 61 to 80 UI and so on) or as a rate per UI on top of a base price.
Rounding
Some price books round each side up to a whole inch before adding, so 35 1/2" × 59 1/4" counts as 36 + 60 = 96 UI rather than 94 3/4. The calculator shows both; use the rule your book states.

Common questions
How do you calculate united inches?
Add the width and the height in inches. A 48" × 36" window is 84 united inches.
Are united inches the same as the perimeter?
No. The perimeter is twice the united inches: 2 × (width + height).
